TheTRANSTUN project has been presented at the 5th “Innovation in Tunnels – Construction, Maintenance, Safety & Fire Protection” international annual conference held in Chamonix, France, on the 14th of November.
As the conference focused on different issues and criticalities related to the security and safety both in transnational and national tunnels, the following aspects were brought to the audience’s attention by Mr. Alessandro D’Autillio, representing TRANSTUN on behalf of SAFE-Europe (Project Coordinator):
- The EU support to Critical Infrastructures’ protection, let alone trans-border tunnels as high-priority European Critical Infrastructures facilities;
- Prevention and response to chemical events in tunnels from the point of view of operators and first responders and in relation to the harmonisation of processes and equipment for personal protection;
- The creation of a network of European Tunnel Security Officers – sponsored by TRANSTUN project – accompanied by an exchange on concrete needs, opportunities and lessons learned.
The conference saw the participation of speakers from over 15 countries, both from within and without the EU, and the attendance of more than 70 tunnel professionals and first responders. The participants have shown interest in TRANSTUN, appreciating the innovative traits of the project in relation to enhanced CBRN trans-border tunnel security.
